Session 4 of ACPE 2025, titled “Data Environment in Asia and Multi-National RCT-DUPLICATE Project: Challenge, Insights and Value,” brought together international experts to discuss the opportunities and challenges of conducting real-world evidence (RWE) studies using healthcare databases in Asia. The symposium was moderated by Kenneth Man (University College London) and In-Sun Oh (Sungkyunkwan University).
The session featured presentations by Francisco Lai (The University of Hong Kong), Hwa Yeon Ko (Sungkyunkwan University, SKKU), Brian Li (National Cheng Kung University, NCKU), and Jenni Ilomaki (Monash University). Speakers highlighted the growing role of Asian real-world data in emulating randomized clinical trials and generating evidence relevant to regional populations. Topics included the implementation of common data models, adaptation of study protocols to local healthcare systems, and methodological considerations for improving the validity and reproducibility of multinational RWE studies.
The symposium also showcased findings from the Asian RCT-DUPLICATE project, demonstrating how rigorous and harmonized approaches across databases can strengthen confidence in observational research, further emphasizing the value of international research networks and cross-country collaboration in advancing pharmacoepidemiology and evidence generation in Asia.
